... and babies make four: Our life with twins. : April 2015

So, I am ridiculously behind in writing this blog. I acknowledge my “slackness” – if that is even a word- and I have no excuse other than my little people have been keeping me busy! It has been over a month since I wrote last and a lot has been going on in the Bleffer house. We have been enjoying the outside with several trips to the park, first trip to Monkey Joe’s, met the Easter Bunny (again), rocked the egg hunt, decorated some eggs, played with some friends, went on a ton of walks, learned about a million new words, listened to some stories at the library, blew some bubbles, mastered the art of sidewalk chalk, learned our letters and colors, and went to the aquarium. It is no wonder I didn’t have time to type!

Spending time with these two is a lot of fun right now. They continue to grow and develop daily and impress me with all that they learn. Like their mommy, they are creatures of habit and they have now incorporated themselves into my daily routines as well. Often I am woken up in the morning by one of them handing me my glasses from the nightstand and telling me to get “out.” Landon then assists me with my coffee making by pushing the buttons, changing out the k-cup and even dropping the spoon in to stir. I am tempted to get him a step stool and just ask for the coffee to be handed to me before I get out of bed. Ha ha. They point to the counter for their vitamins after the coffee is made and then we sit down on the couch with our drinks and a little Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Found some bugs in the driveway

Landon talks non-stop, but most of the time I don’t know what he is saying until several attempts have been made. Some words we hear a lot are: food, drink, five (for high five), choo choo, bite, shoe, and truck. There are MANY MANY more words, but those are currently most used. He is still very laid back and will be the first to climb in your lap, sit back, and watch a movie. He loves to play with balls and trains. He carries a baby doll around a lot and will attempt to give her “bites” of his food or he pushes her around in a stroller. He likes to stack blocks and also to knock them down. We have started to refer to him as a “hoarder.” He wants to keep his hands full at all times and that often means we are carrying more than one item around and often they are a little bit strange. We recently went to the library with a small bowl, spoon, and potato from their play kitchen. He has had a few rough moments with the teething and tears, but overall he handles it well. He has become a better eater, but he much prefers and will eat better if mommy is feeding him. He is definitely a Mama’s Boy and I find it difficult to resist his smile.

Riley continues to be the “spunky” one and she is often described as being “all over the place.” She will run up and down the hall slamming into the couch or slamming Landon’s car into the couch if she is pushing him on his car. You can tell she loves her brother, but she will still “mess” with him when she can by taking his toy and running away. She will typically bring it back in a matter of second though. If she knocks him down then she is the first person to help to pick him up. She repeats everything you say, she will pick one word in the sentence and say it back to you. Some of her favorite words are: shoes, drink, bite, teeth, toes, eye (as she pokes you in the eye), and hi. Some of her favorite toys include stacking blocks, stuffed animals, books, and Mommy’s phone when she is able to steal it away. Riley also has 16 teeth and she does not take the pain as gracefully as Landon and will melt down if she is in pain – the two year molars will be a lot of fun. She does eat just about anything and you can even find her trying to get the leftover food off Landon’s plate when she is done eating. We are in a bit of a difficult phase with Riley right now as we think she is having nightmares. It does not happen every night, but if she does wake up it happens several times a night – and she wakes up SCREAMING! There have been a rough couple of nights that include mommy sleeping on their bedroom floor or her sleeping in a pile on my bed. I am hoping that it is just a phase and that both she and myself can get some relief.

I do very much love being able to watch them interact together. They seem to have developed their own language and they will talk and laugh together all day long. Landon will call out for his “NeeNee” and she will come running. They hand each other toys and will pick up toys for each other when they are dropped. Landon is especially quick to give Riley back her pacifier when it is dropped. They run up and down the hall together pushing toys. They wait outside the bedroom for each other when one wakes up first. They run up to each other and say “hi” even if they have only been separated for a few minutes. They make me smile about 100 times a day. I have even caught them holding hands in the car.
