Keeping us busy...

Well, we officially have two walkers in the house.  Riley started walking shortly after the last post.  I went away with the girls for the weekend and came back to Riley walking right up to me.  Landon chose to start walking at a vineyard on October 12th (15 months exactly).  He must have known that he was going to have to go to physical therapy if he wasn’t walking by 15 months.  He took about 10 steps that day, I of course cried, and he has continued to push himself since then.  It is a lot of fun to see the progress they have made while walking.  In the beginning, we referred to Riley as Franken-baby due to her walking with her arms straight out in front of her.  She is getting faster and wants to walk everywhere we go now and Landon is working hard to keep up- he just has to learn to stand up on his own now.

We are going through a tough phase right now with eating.  They won’t eat ANYTHING! The last couple nights have been difficult to say the least. Tonight they ended up eating yogurt and garlic bread for dinner – not exactly a well-balanced meal.  Landon has always been picky about vegetables, but Riley won’t eat them either now.  I feel like they have finally figured out that they don’t have to eat limited options as I have been trying to give them different foods – and now they have “favorites” and that is what they want to eat.  I really hope this is a short phase as I want them to eat a variety of food and it is hard to figure out what to feed them each night at this rate!
They love to play and interact with each other.  They push each other up and down the hall on their riding toys - gives me a break from pushing them up and down in their cars on my own. They like to sit in laundry baskets, especially when I am trying to fold the laundry that is inside of the basket.  We “invented” a new game for them – “baby fight club” – basically we fill their pack n’ play with pillows and just let them flop around.  They love it and it buys us a few minutes of time every now and then.  Landon has developed a love of stuffed animals and wants to have one with him most of the time.  They both love to play with the Little People Zoo and have started to mimic me when I make the people “walk” around.  Landon learned to “click” his tongue this last week and Riley just started doing it as well.  He is so proud of himself – that and “blubbing” his lips.

As they grow, their personalities are really coming through and they are each so different.  Riley is adventurous and daring.  Landon is cautious and sensitive.  Riley is the queen of the “fake” cry and Landon is amazing at his emotional melt downs.  He is a mommy’s boy and does not let me get far.  They both love to laugh and giggle.  There seems to be a communication between them as well- a lot of the same sounds and noises back and forth.  They love to read and climb up in my lap MANY times a day with a book and they even “read” to me as well.Teeth count: Riley - 7 and Landon - 8. I think we are still working on some of those molars in the back too though - and that might be why the eating has become more difficult as well.

My mom and Trey came to visit recently – and spoiled the babies.  I have been told that is the mom of a grandma though so she would not accept no as an answer- I was even a little spoiled as well.  They love their new wagon and I took them on a ride last night up and down the street.  They are starting to get the hang of sitting at the table and like to play “Goldilocks” with the chairs.  Only one minor injury with falling off the chairs so far.  I had a “bad mommy” moment when mom said she wanted to get them new tennis shoes as well and I found out that Riley has been wearing shoes that are two sizes too small! I felt terrible! They both love their new shoes and especially like to stomp around and listen to the different noises their feet make.  We went to the aquarium, the children’s museum, vineyards, pumpkin patch, and a lot of shopping.  We did some family pictures while they were here as well and I am going to include some of them – unedited.

Update from 15 month doctor appointment today: Riley is 30.25 inches tall – a growth of 2 inches in 3 months.  She also weighs 21lbs 10oz – a growth of 2 lbs 13 oz in 3 months. She is growing up super fast! Landon is 29.25 inches – a growth of 1.25 inches- and he weighs 20lbs 12 oz – a growth of only 1 lb 4 oz. Landon has increased his activity level and I guess the weight came off a little bit. :)
